After being a student of dance for years, it can be an invigorating, natural step to begin teaching dance classes to other dancers. While bridging the gap from student to teacher can feel nerve-racking, it's also a fun and fulfilling learning process. Here's a quick guide on how to teach ballet.

3 Steps That'll Help Make Becoming a Ballet Instructor Easier

1. Sit in on Dance Classes

Being a ballet student has taught you everything you know, but it can be hard to focus on an instructor's style when you're focused on dancing. Instead, try to sit in on a few dance classes so that you can simply observe a teacher's methods of instruction, from their lesson plans to how they manage the students. Make sure to take notes so you can refer back to them when you need to, applying what worked and what didn't to your own future teaching style.

2. Create Mock Lesson Plans

Whether you have dance classes scheduled or are just getting used to the idea of teaching, having some lesson plans ready to go will be helpful for adjusting to the lifestyle, as well as time management. By preparing lesson plans for dance classes, you'll be able to get into teaching mode. It will also allow for time to have a fellow instructor look over the plans, so that you can workshop them beforehand.

3. Practice Your Technique

Before you can teach others, it's imperative to perfect your own understanding of the craft. This knowledge includes technique, movements, and the language that surrounds ballet itself. By brushing up on your expertise, students will garner a deeper, more proficient understanding of their own.
