It’s hard to replicate the feeling and freedom of a day on the water. When boating, it’s important to remember your limitations and that there will be unique needs. Packing the right items for these situations and other scenarios will ensure you’re comfortable throughout your day-long trip and prepared for anything that might arise.

What to Bring on a Day-Long Boating Trip

1. Safety Items

boating

Boating safety is a must because you’re isolated in the water. Start with personal needs like sunscreen. Severe sunburns can be extremely painful and cause illnesses. Remember sunglasses as well, so you don’t strain your eyes.

If you’re the boat owner, look up boating regulations and stock plenty of first aid supplies based on how many passengers you’ll have. Including floatation devices that fit all body types and flares or other signals in case of an emergency.

2. Extra Clothes

Being out on the water all day, you may experience temperature changes. Pack a change of clothes for each family member and warmer items to cover up as the wind can get chilly when the sun starts to go down. A light jacket would come in handy to keep you warm and keep you safe from the sun.

3. Food and Water

Hydration is imperative when you’re out on a hot day, so bring plenty of bottled water. The average adult should drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day, so get your fill, especially if you’re participating in watersports or doing a lot of swimming.

Remember food as well. Bring simple, pre-prepared foods in a cooler, like potato salad or items to make sandwiches. Individual store-bought items for a grab and go snack are nice to have on hand as well. Know how many hours you’ll be on the water to ensure you bring enough for several meals.
