Before you send your child off to their first ballet class, you want to make sure they're well prepared for the lesson ahead. Ballet takes discipline and responsibility to master, and that includes bringing all the necessary equipment to practice. Below are the most essential items you should purchase and pack with your child's belongings, so they can start learning ballet without any setbacks.

3 Necessary Items for Your Child's First Ballet Class

1. Ballet Shoes

Ballet shoes are often referred to as slippers or flats and allow your child to perform proper movements without slipping. Typically, girls wear pink slippers while boys wear black or white. Make sure you buy standard slippers, not pointe shoes. Pointe shoes are for more advanced ballet dancers, and if it's your child's first dance class, they are definitely not ready for Pointe lessons.

2. Leotard

A leotard is another essential part of a ballet class uniform. This is a one-piece article of dance clothing that is typically made of cotton, lycra, or spandex. The fabric's flexibility makes it easier for ballerinas to perform proper movements without being hindered by their clothing.

3. Water Bottle

The last essential you need for your child's first dance class is a water bottle. Ballet is a workout and your child should have access to water to ensure they stay hydrated throughout the activity. Many dance studios have refillable water stations where your child can fill up their bottle when it runs out.

Enroll your child in their first ballet class at Origins Dance Academy, a dance studio located in Crown Point, IN. This studio is affiliated with Youth Protection Advocates in Dance® and a More Than Just Great Dancing®, and offers dance classes in ballet, acro, tap, and jazz. They have their own dance troupe, Origins Troupe, which is an award-winning competitive and performance program.
