Golf carts can make navigating golf courses and recreation areas quick and convenient. You may also use these vehicles to get around your neighborhood or outdoor areas while landscaping and working on home improvement projects. Certain parts and accessories can enhance the way your cart looks and functions. Here are a handful of improvements you might make to the vehicle.

4 Ways to Upgrade Golf Carts

1. Heavy-Duty Tires

Standard tires on golf carts measure about eight inches in diameter and perform well on paved surfaces such as concrete and asphalt. However, if you want to take your vehicle on other types of terrain, upgrading to a set of 10- or 12-inch tires allows you to drive on grass, dirt, and rocky roads. These wheels are made from heavy-duty rubber and have deeper tread, making them more impervious to potential damages caused by rough terrain and providing a smoother off-road ride.

2. Canopy Top & Windshield

A canopy top can offer shade and shelter for the driver and all passengers, protecting against excess sunlight and rainfall. Adding a windshield to the cart may block air, debris, and moisture from flying in your face and causing vision or breathing issues while you drive. These upgrades can provide a more comfortable riding experience and increase safety while operating the vehicle.

3. Lights

If you plan to drive your golf cart after dark, adding headlights and taillights can provide you with clearer views of the roads and make it easier for other drivers to see you. This may reduce the risk of an accident while operating the vehicle at night. You might also install colorful LED lightbars or string lights on the underside or top of your cart, which can give it an attractive glow after the sun goes down.

4. High-Powered Battery & Motor

If you want your golf cart to go faster, you can start by getting a new battery. Standard carts typically have 36-volt batteries and upgrading to one with at least 48 volts will allow you to reach higher maximum speeds.

Keep in mind that swapping out the battery might require installing a new golf cart speed controller that can support the increased voltage. A golf cart repair team may also install a more powerful motor or engine to help you accelerate more rapidly and travel at faster speeds.
