Body contouring is a non-surgical procedure designed to remove fat from targeted areas of the body. There are different types, with cryolipolysis, a procedure that relies on cold temperatures to reduce fat, being one of the most popular methods. Cryoskin is one specific way of performing this treatment. Although these terms all are often used interchangeably, they refer to distinct techniques. Find out how these various procedures work below.

What Is Body Contouring

Body contouring is a general term for various non-surgical procedures that reduce body fat, improve sagging or wrinkled skin, and create an overall "tighter" appearance. Body sculpting targets tough areas that don't respond well to exercise, like the belly, arms, thighs, and chin.

There are different body contouring technologies that can be used. Lasers and radio frequencies, which rely on ultrasound waves, use heat to target unwanted fat cells. There is also cryolipolysis, which uses extreme cold to destroy fat cells. Cryoskin is one specific technology that falls under this umbrella and includes CryoSlimming® and CryoToning®.

How Does Cryogenic Body Sculpting Work

This approach works by utilizing cold temperatures applied via a wand across the desired area. The fat cells disinigrate and are then expelled out of the body via the lymphatic system in the weeks following the treatment. Results of about half an inch to an inch are usually seen after one session, with the best results seen after 5-10 Cryoskin sessions. Results will last indefinitely, depending on how well you maintain them via diet and exercise.

Since it's noninvasive, cool sculpting doesn't require any downtime following the procedure, which takes about 45 minutes for each target body area. Afterward, you may notice feelings of cold, aching, or redness, but these should subside naturally over the rest of the day.
