Whether it’s for yourself or a gift for someone else, doing a boudoir shoot will allow you to feel more beautiful, confident, and empowered. These sessions are meant to be fun and thrilling. However, it can seem a bit intimidating if you’ve never done one before. Fortunately, being properly prepared will make the day go much smoother. The following guide highlights some tips that can help.

Do:

Plan your outfits.

Think about what body parts you want to highlight to determine which type of clothing may be the most flattering. Generally, it’s a good idea to bring several wardrobe options that will let your unique style and personality shine through. For example, opt for lingerie, bodysuits, or an oversized button-down shirt that belongs to your significant other. Try everything on ahead of time to make sure each piece is a good fit.

Prioritize skin care.

Boudoir photos are designed to show a great deal of skin. If you wax, do so at least three to five days before the shoot to avoid bumps and redness. Drink plenty of water in the week leading up to the session to keep your skin hydrated and luminous. Shave the night before or the morning of, and apply moisturizer so that your skin looks fresh.

Don’t:

Spray tan.

Steer clear of spray tanning within a week of the shoot. This service can result in blotchy patches on your face and leave an orange glow. In most cases, your natural skin will photograph the best. If you feel it’s necessary to have a bronze glow, get a spray tan at a professional salon and ensure there are no tan lines.

Wear tight clothing.

On the way to the shoot, be sure to wear loose-fitting clothes and undergarments. Anything tight on your skin could leave red marks or impressions that you don’t want showing up in your photos. Tight items include bras, underwear, jeans, and socks. The marks usually take some time to disappear and will detract from the beauty of the photos.
