It’s common to buy a house after welcoming a baby into the family. Moving is always a bit challenging, but can become even more so when you have to care for a little one. If you just purchased a new home for your family, use these tips to prepare for a smooth transition.

Do:

Ask for help.

Helping hands make all tasks easier. Ask if friends and family who live nearby are available to help for a couple of hours on moving day. Those who are good with kids can be in charge of caring for your little one while you focus on coordinating with the movers and setting up utilities.

Stick to their routine.

Maintaining a routine is often the only way to keep a young child in a good mood. Make it easy for those who are going to be watching your little one by creating a timeline that provides a clear reference on when to encourage naptime and eating. Ensure the caretakers have a bag of supplies that includes diapers, bottles, toys, and an extra change of clothes.

Don’t:

Pack your baby’s belongings first.

It’s difficult to predict what your little one will need in the days leading up to the move. Rather than risking upsetting them, leave packing their items until the very last minute to ensure they're available for every possible situation. Once your child goes off with a trusted loved one, you can simply place their belongings inside empty boxes.

Go without a pack ‘n play.

If there’s no one to watch your little one during the move, have a pack ‘n play handy. It’s easy to set up and can fit in various locations. Have it nearby while movers load the truck and bring it to the new house to keep your child safe and give them enough space to move and play.
