Being an athlete and student can lead to a tight schedule and busy lifestyle. If your child wants to start dance classes, and you're worried about them balancing their athletic program with their education, you should know how to help them manage their time. Below are some tips for time management so your child can excel at school and dance.

3 Tips for Balancing Your Kid's Schooling and Dance Classes

1. Make a Schedule

Balancing two commitments involves making a long-term schedule and sticking to it. Ensure your child's hobbies never coincide with their schooling, and write down important dates for educational events and dance recitals.

Laying out your schedule lets you see when the two commitments could conflict. You can reschedule or prioritize certain events ahead of time, keeping you and your child from making stressful decisions when the dates are closer.

2. Establish Priorities

Your child should know that schooling is their priority. Studying and homework must be their top concern, despite how much they enjoy their dance classes. If they don't prioritize school, their grades can drop.

Along with affecting their education, poor performance could get them banned from school-related dance activities if they are enrolled in those as well. Prioritizing also teaches your little one responsibility and the importance of professional commitment.

3. Take Breaks

Going to school eight hours a day and then spending hours in dance class can be exhausting. Therefore, make sure your child isn't overwhelmed by this double commitment and that they get weekend days and time off to themselves. Remember that—like adults—children can get mental burnout, and you want them to enjoy their dance classes rather than feel like it's a chore to attend.
