There's so much that goes into wedding planning, from creating a guest list and menu to researching chair rentals and DJs. Because the process can be overwhelming, it helps to take a step back and focus on one task at a time. The following guide can help you stay on the right track and take some stress out of the planning process.

Do:

Check the weather for outdoor weddings.

While you can't predict the weather with 100% accuracy, you should account for local seasonal trends when planning an outdoor wedding. Most weather apps and websites can tell you whether a forecast is normal for the region or expected to be warmer or cooler or see unusual precipitation. Schedule tent rental to provide shelter against intense sun and heat or a surprise rain shower.

Make your guests comfortable.

Whether you're having a relatively small gathering or a massive affair, you must be able to accommodate everyone. Having an accurate headcount allows you to book the right number of table and chair rentals. Set a definitive RSVP deadline so you have enough lead time for the reservation. Plan to seat eight guests per table so everyone is comfortable; depending on the size of the guest list, you may have to round up, which will result in a few extra seats. For a wedding with 75 guests, for example, you'd need a minimum of 10 tables and 80 seats total.

Don't:

Send e-vites.

Sending wedding invitations via email can lead to lots of confusion and missed deadlines, especially if people receive high volumes of messages or don't watch their inboxes closely. Paper invitations sent through the mail are best because the recipients can hang onto theirs and post it in a visible place at home as a reminder.

Give in to family pressure.

While many couples want to include friends and family in the decision-making process out of trust, you and your soon-to-be spouse are the only ones getting married. That means you are free to have the final say on items that affect your budget, such as the guest list, menu, wardrobe, and entertainment. Be sensitive and accommodating where you can, such as a dietary restriction or accessibility issue, but remember that this day is about celebrating your relationship.
