One of the many perks of remodeling your cooking space includes choosing a new kitchen design style. There are many classic styles to select from, allowing you to pick a design that complements the rest of your home and suits your aesthetic. Below are some of the most popular styles to inspire your creative vision.

A Guide to Kitchen Design Styles

1. Farmhouse

Reminiscent of farmers’ kitchens, this design style is often described as simple and rustic. Common features include deep, apron-front sinks, farm tables, butcher block cutting boards, and shaker-style cabinets featuring square-edged doors free of raised panels and other embellishments. Farmhouse kitchen designs also often feature exposed beams, natural wood floors, and simple subway tiles for back splashes.

2. Modern

Contemporary, or modern, kitchens are all about minimalist designs and clean lines. They often feature the latest in kitchen technology, such as smart appliances, as well as frameless cabinets that create sleek results. Cabinet hardware is simple rather than ornate. Modern kitchens rarely feature a large number of knick-knacks or wall decor, with their backsplashes and countertops often simple and solid-colored.

3. Industrial

The industrial kitchen design combines modern features with classic factory-style decor, such as stainless steel appliances, an exposed brick backsplash, and factory-style filament light bulb fixtures. Reclaimed wood is a decor staple of the industrial style, and often used for countertops and seating areas. Concrete is another material used to create an industrial-style kitchen, and, like wood, can be used for seats and countertops. Concrete tables and backsplashes are also possibilities.

4. Mediterranean

A kitchen design inspired by the natural world, the Mediterranean style includes dark wood cabinetry and bright elements such as mosaic backsplashes and colorful floor tiles. “Earthy” materials are frequently used, like reclaimed wood, brick, and stone, with kitchen accessories echoing the earthy vibe, including copper pots and ceramic dishware. Arches are another common Mediterranean element, such as arched kitchen entrances.
