By now I am sure you have heard about the income tax and property tax rebates the state of Illinois will be issuing. What you may not know is that in order to receive the income tax rebate, you have to have filed your Illinois income tax return for 2021. Many seniors may have not filed a return because their retirement income and social security are not taxed at the state level and other income being low enough to fall below the filing threshold. These people seemingly will not receive the income tax rebate if they have not filed a return. If you are one of these people you may want to check into filing a return just to ensure you receive your rebate. This may also be the case for the property tax rebate. It appears that you have to have filed a Schedule IRC claiming a property tax credit on your return to receive this rebate. If you didn't file your return or didn't file Schedule IRC with your return you may want to file IL-1040-PTR at the state of Illinois website MyTax Illinois:
