What Are Margaritas Made Of?

It’s thought that the margarita first made an appearance in 1938. Mexican restaurant owner Carlos Herrera created the drink for a showgirl named Marjorie King. Since tequila was the only alcohol she liked, he added lime juice and salt to enhance the flavor. 

Another possibility is that Texas socialite Margaret Sames concocted the drink in 1948 while attending a house party in Mexico. It might also be that the drink was named after Margarita Casino, who was known by her stage name Rita Hayworth in the 1940s.
