One of the most common injuries that seniors experience every winter, whether they live alone, with family, or in senior living, is broken bones from slipping on ice. Falling this way can do considerable damage to a person's body, and it's difficult to recover from at that age. To prevent undue injuries from falling, always use extreme caution while walking in an area that could be icy. If possible, have someone walk with you for stability.

3. Drive Carefully

People over 65 are much more likely to be involved in car accidents, and these numbers increase during the winter, when driving conditions are worse and there are fewer hours of daylight. It's crucial to winterize your vehicle before the season starts to help prevent accidents. Check your tires, replace your wipers, and ensure you're topped up on antifreeze. If you're unfamiliar with the area you're in, drive slowly, and always be on the lookout for icy spots.
