3. Warmth

Freezing weather can stiffen up the mechanisms and cause a key to stick. If this is the case, hold a lighter near the surface of the key. Once the warmth reaches the internal components, it should loosen them up so that you can easily remove the key.  

4. Graphite Lubricant Preventative

Sometimes prevention is the best option. Occasionally applying a graphite lubricant can keep locks working smoothly and avoid the need for lockout services. While wet lubricants are useful, they tend to attract dust and gum up the internal mechanisms. Graphite is a much better alternative as it’s naturally soft and slides easily in between materials. Spray it directly onto the key, then gently move the key back and forth to work the lubricant into the lock.
