Having a strong internet connection is important for several things in today's world. When working from home, you need to communicate and access your network. You also need strong internet connectivity if you want to sit back, relax, and stream your favorite show. Unfortunately, sometimes internet services can have connectivity issues. To help you figure out what's going on and get back online, consider some of the following tips.

4 Tips to Troubleshoot Internet Connectivity

1. Try a Different Device

First, to make sure that the connectivity issue isn't caused by your computer or smartphone, try to use the internet on another device. If you're able to connect to the internet on your tablet but not to your laptop, you can confirm that the problem is with the device and not the WiFi. Try restarting it and reconnecting to your network to see if that fixes the problem.

2. Check the Equipment

If none of your devices can connect to internet services, check the equipment itself. This includes looking at the modems and routers to see if they're emitting any signal. Just look for the LED status lights. The internet signal light is usually labeled with a small globe icon, WAN, or even just "Internet." If connected, the light should be solid and is usually white or green.

If the light isn't on, or it's red, the modem isn't connected to the internet and you'll need further troubleshooting. The Wi-Fi lights should also be blinking in order for your devices to connect. They're usually labeled as WLAN, Wireless, 5G, or 2.4G.

3. Check for an Outage

Although frustrating, internet outages do happen occasionally. This could be caused by service provider maintenance or construction in your vicinity. There are different websites available to help you check for an area-wide outage, but you can also contact your internet service provider directly as well. If you're trying to load a specific website and continue having trouble, try loading a different one. Occasionally, entire websites go down for everyone.

4. Restart Devices

Sometimes, turning off the devices, unplugging the cables in your modem and router, replugging them, and restarting everything can help fix the issue. Although it might not work for every connectivity issue, it's easy to do and is worth trying. If internet problems persist, call your service provider for further guidance.
