Seniors graduating high school have the option of continuing their formal education. Going to a community college opens the door to opportunities that provide life-long benefits. Here are reasons why attending is a wise move.

Why Go to College?

1. Gain Financial Responsibility

Attending college helps you develop financial skills and learn valuable lessons about fiscal responsibility. Having a part-time job on or off campus requires you to build the time-management skills you need to achieve success in reaching your long-term goals. Setting a budget for expenses, such as books, a cellphone, and school activities prepares you for entering the workforce and budgeting your earnings.

2. Expand Earning Potential

A degree from a community college gives you more employment opportunities. You can also use it as a stepping stone to a traditional four-year institution.

Many employers require applicants to have a college degree. Historically, the more education you have, the lower the chance of experiencing unemployment. In March 2021, the unemployment rate for high school graduates was 6.7% but only 3.7% for college grads. Over their lifetimes, college graduates also earn more than twice as much money as those who only finished high school. 3. Gain Life-Long Friends & Professional Connections

Attending a community college allows you to explore a wide variety of career options. Internships and paid cooperative experiences provide real-world training, enhance your interpersonal skills and prepare you for the work you ultimately choose to do. College also gives you opportunities to develop networks of instructors, counselors and other students. As a result, you will make connections that will help in pursuing your career, as well as potential life-long friends.
