Whether your due date is months off or your trip to the family birth center is imminent any day now, having your hospital bag packed will ensure Mom, Baby, and Mom's partner are comfortable and prepared. The perfect maternity bag should stick to the necessities and be stored in an easily accessible place so you can just grab it and go. Below are some items to include.

For Mom

Mom should put multiple copies of the birth plan, as well as an ID, insurance card, and any other hospital-related paperwork or documentation in a folder and store it in the maternity bag. Loose-fitting clothes, a bathrobe, and slippers will help make the stay at the family birth center more comfortable. Toiletries are also essential; pack body lotion, lip balm, maternity pads, and, if you're planning to breastfeed, nipple cream. It is also smart to pack a pillow or two from home, a long cellphone charging cord, and a small spray bottle that can be filled with water and sprayed on your face to keep cool during labor.

For Her Partner

Your partner should be comfortable, too. Pack snacks, extra cellphone cords and chargers, and a few entertainment items, like books. Remember, delivery can be a long process, so a change of clothes and some travel toiletries should also be included in the bag.

For the Baby

This usually means a few bodysuits, socks, and booties, as well as an outfit to wear home. If you're bottle-feeding, pack at least two bottles. Also, make sure an appropriate car seat is in the car.
