They may always be fashionable, but high heels certainly aren’t the most supportive choice for footwear. The structure of the shoe tends to put excess pressure on the sole of the foot, which can lead to foot pain, strain on the joints, and calluses. 1. Shop for the Right Size

It’s always important to make sure you’re buying the right size when shopping or any type of shoe. With heels, it’s especially critical, since the shape of the shoe makes it more likely that your foot could slip out. There shouldn’t be any gaps at the back of the shoe or along the inner area of the foot, near the arches. This may indicate you need to size down. On the other hand, you shouldn’t have to cram the front of your foot into a tiny toe box. In that case, the shoes are either too small or not a great fit for your foot shape. Strappy heels with hardly any material may look nice, but they’re among the worst offenders when it comes to causing foot issues. Without adequate structure, these minimalist styles shoes are unlikely to provide enough support, which is dangerous when you consider heels can make it difficult to balance in the first place. Reduce the risk for ankle sprains and skip the foot pain by seeking out a style with plenty of material surrounding the foot. This will help to keep your foot supported and held safely inside the shoe while you walk.
