How to Properly Shoot a Handgun

• Holding the Gun: Your grip on the gun should be as tight as possible. This will help you keep the gun steady as you shoot. Your arms should be fully extended without locking your elbows.
• Proper Gun Stance: Distribute your weight evenly between both feet, resting your weight on your heels. Stand up straight, with your shoulders squared and relaxed. Lean your torso slightly forward, and don’t bend at the waist. This will help protect you against gun recoil.
• Positioning the Legs: Keep your feet either hip-width or 12 to 18 inches apart, with your knees slightly bent. Your feet should be firmly planted on the ground.  
• Aligning the Sights: Your gun sight will help you aim and focus on your target. There is a variety of different types, but essentially you will line up the small post on the front of the slide with the notched blade on the rear. Once your sights are aligned, place them on the target.
• Pulling the Trigger: The perfect trigger pull is both slow and deliberate. Remember to take a deep breath, note your stance, and square your shoulders before pulling the trigger. If you pull the trigger abruptly, flinch, or jerk the gun, you are likely to miss your shot. When the trigger on your gun is pulled properly, your stance will not move at all, and the bullet will hit its target head on.
