A wood fence serves many important practical purposes. However, it can also be a medium for self-expression, especially during the holidays. For example, you can decorate it to convey your excitement for the season. If you’d like to make your fence look festive but aren’t sure how to do it, review the following ideas.

How Can You Decorate Your Fence for the Holidays?

1. Light It Up

Traditional Christmas lights always look breathtaking. They also make your fence easy to see in the dark, which improves navigation around your property at night. For example, it will be fun to weave strings of lights in and out of the openings of a wood fence. You can also drape lights over hooks or nails on the planks, attaching clamps to grasp them. If you’re worried that you’ll need fence repairs afterward, opt to secure the lights with zip ties instead.

2. Hang Your Decorations

Many of the same items that you hang in your home would also work for your wood fence. Using the aforementioned hooks, nails, clamps, or zip ties, hang garlands, wreaths, ribbons, tinsel, stockings, or tree ornaments. If you use ornaments, consider spelling out holiday-themed words or phrases with different colors.

Perhaps you’ve seen inflatable or light-up reindeer, snowmen, angels, stars, candy canes, and other holiday characters or symbols in the yards of other homes. You could add these items to your fence instead. Clamps may work for these decorations, but others may fit directly on top of the posts.

3. Remember the Base

If there’s enough space beneath your wood fence, fill it up with more garlands, oversized ornaments, fake present boxes, or even a toy train on a railroad. It could be a good spot to set up some stakes on which to secure your yard decorations, too. Also, consider using tape or glue to suspend tinsel from the bottoms of the posts.
