Emotional Freedom Techniques, commonly shortened to EFT, is a type of therapy that aims to enhance emotional health through the act of "tapping" certain points on the body.

During an EFT session, the practitioner taps on acupressure sites while you focus on a negative emotion, allowing you to release that emotion.  As you release a negative emotion, your understanding of that emotion will also shift.  For example, releasing guilt may lead to self forgiveness, anger may transform into objectivity, and grief may transition into a more peaceful perspective.  EFT is effectively used for a wide variety of distressing experiences such as stress, anxiety, anger, sadness, cravings, fears, muscle tension, and physical pain.

A relative of acupressure and acupuncture, tapping helps clear away negative emotions that block the body's natural healing energy.  By focusing on the negative emotion while tapping, the negative emotion is released. It is unknown WHY it works, but it is proven with double blind studies, that it does work. The negative emotion is followed by the positive emotions with which you wish to replace the negative emotive. Following exploration of the technique with an experienced practitioner, the treatment can be self-administered at home, which provides an even deeper level of value. Here's a closer look at the advantages your emotional, mental, and physical health may receive.

How EFT Tapping Can Aid the Mind & Body

1. Reduce Stress & Anxiety

Implementation of EFT has been shown to reduce levels of cortisol, the primary stress hormone that can cause problems when chronically elevated. By targeting known acupuncture points and clearing negative energy, there is strong potential for reduced stress and anxiety

A range of issues, such as low self-esteem, depression, and difficulty sleeping, can be improved by tapping. As you learn to direct positive focus during the practice, it's possible to clear energy blockages and experience a boost of healing. It can work, across the board, for any negative emotion.

2. Release PTSD

EFT

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious problem that's often associated with combat veterans, though trauma can affect a wide range of people in various ways. Tapping can alleviate the effects of PTSD with a concentrated approach similar to targeting anxiety, producing strong results. The VA is now paying for EFT therapy for veterans suffering with PTSD.

3. Alleviate Pain

Chronic pain can afflict many areas of the body, and finding relief can sometimes be difficult. EFT tapping is often used to address chronic joint and muscle pain, tension headaches, fibromyalgia, post-op pain, among others. Successful pain treatment can positively influence a broad range of life aspects, such as social function, activies of daily living, vitality, and athletic performance.
