During bathroom remodeling projects, many homeowners have tiled walls and flooring refinished. After the service, you likely want to keep the new surfaces in top shape to protect your investment. Here are some tips to help you maintain them.

How to Keep Bathroom Tiles Clean

1. Wipe Daily

It's much easier to clean as you go than to do so once dirt has accumulated. A little maintenance every day makes tiles sparkle and lengthens the time required between deep cleans.

Wipe up soap scum and toothpaste splatters before they harden. Dry the walls and flooring after bathing to avoid mildew and stained grout. If you notice dark spots forming, take a grout brush and clean with a bleach or vinegar solution.

2. Make Your Own Cleaner

Bathroom remodelingYou can create an inexpensive and effective tile cleaner out of products you may already have on hand. Mix one-part baking soda, a half-part salt, and a half-part sodium carbonate into a paste with water or vinegar.

Baking soda is a well-known cleaner because it is alkaline and dissolves dirt and grease. Meanwhile, salt is a mild abrasive and absorbs water to prevent spills from staining surfaces. Sodium carbonate is a natural grease cutter and water softener, eliminating mineral deposits.

3. Scrub From Top to Bottom

When performing a deep clean, always start at the top and move downward. That way, the soapy water, grime, and cleaner won't drip down onto your newly washed surfaces.

Use a cotton swab to scrub the grout and reach tight corners. Rinse and dry thoroughly after cleaning. Doing so regularly will keep your bathroom bright and fresh for years.
