Frequently Asked Questions About SNUBA
SNUBA is a combination of snorkeling and scuba diving, and it uses a surface underwater breathing system. This system allows you to spend more time diving beneath the surface. If you’re interested in experiencing the animals and scenery of the Hawaiian coastline, here’s what you should know before diving in the water.
SNUBA FAQ
What experience is required?
No diving experience or scuba certifications are required to SNUBA; all you need are basic swimming skills. Although you’ll spend a lot of time in the water, you only need to breathe through your mouth and kick your feet. Even swimmers who aren’t as strong can comfortably go on a tour.
What equipment will I wear?
Swimmers will wear a pair of fins and a mask as they normally would when snorkeling. You’ll also have a SNUBA harness, which connects the air line to the surface raft, supplying you with oxygen. You can also wear a weight belt, which will make it easier to swim underwater.
Can I wear glasses?
You shouldn’t wear glasses under the mask because it can’t seal properly over them. If you require vision correction, wear contacts, or rent a prescription mask.
How do you breathe?
The equipment is comfortable and similar to snorkeling. You’ll breathe through the regulator, which is the mouthpiece connected to the air line. You’ll need to remember to breathe through your mouth.
How deep can I dive?
Since you’re connected to the surface by the air line, you can dive to a maximum depth of 20 feet. However, you don’t have to go this deep and should only dive to depths you’re comfortable with.
