Do’s & Don’ts for Throwing a Sports Party in a Home Theater
Home theaters aren’t just for viewing movies. For sports lovers, they are also excellent spaces for watching all of your favorite teams and enjoying the biggest events of the season with friends and neighbors. If you’re planning a Super Bowl party or want to get the most out of March Madness, here are some tips for readying your theater for these events.
Do:
Test different viewing angles.
You want all of your guests to be able to watch the big game comfortably from their seats. Flat LCD TVs have limited viewing angles, so the further away someone is from the center, the less they’ll be able to see of the screen. Test each seat in your home theater to determine if they should be moved to make it easier to watch the screen and if extra seats can be added. Then, you’ll know how many people the room can accommodate.
Adjust the TV lighting.
There will likely be a lot of activity happening in your home theater during the game, so it will help to have the room lights turned up. To compensate, turn up the brightness settings on the TV or use the day mode to make the picture more visible. Using a dimmer will also let you keep the room lights on without having them on all the way.
Don’t:
Ignore the surround sound.
Boost the side and rear speakers’ volume settings to give your partygoers a more realistic viewing experience. You’ll feel almost like you’re really at the game. Plus, during the Super Bowl half-time show, the music will sound fuller and clearer coming through these speakers than the smaller ones on your TV.
Watch in 3D.
While it would be cool to watch any sports event in 3D, this isn’t how they are broadcast today. Turning on this feature can negatively alter the viewing experience of your game. Keep it off and save it for movie nights to have a more enjoyable experience.
