When Kim St. Laurent married a local businessman and relocated The St. Laurent School of Dance from London to Honolulu in 1990, she started a tradition of offering Christmas shows at retirement homes on Oahu. It was a natural way to give back to the community since her maternal grandparents were living at Arcadia.

Over the years, other venues have been added. This year, in addition to two shows at Arcadia, in the main lobby and on the hospital floor, performances will be held at the Palolo Chinese Home, the Holiday Retirement Home in Hawaii Kai, Pohai Nani in Kaneohe, Kuakini Hospital, and Kahala Nui. And for everyone’s enjoyment, there will be a performance on Ala Moana’s Centerstage at 5:00 pm on December 10.

The St. Laurent Junior Company, comprising 21 students aged 6 to 16, will offer a 45-minute program of dance and song featuring ballet, jazz and contemporary styles. Traditional classics like “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” and “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth,” will join some fun newer numbers like “Bollywood Jingle Bells,” and “Santa Lost His Mojo,” as well as the beautiful ballet, “Once Upon a December,” from the Disney movie Anastasia.
