How Dance Can Add to Your Child’s Summer
Enrolling your child in a dance class at a local academy offers more than formal technique instruction. It also gives them the chance to build lasting friendships, understand their potential, and embrace new experiences. Located in the Honolulu arts district of Kaka`ako/Ala Moana, The St. Laurent School of Dance has been providing Oahu with a wide range of lessons, including ballet, tap, jazz, pointe and singing for all ages since 1990.
Here, they offer a few reasons why summer is the perfect time to try one of their dance classes:
Offers Rewards Beyond Dancing
Whether it’s a beginner’s ballet class or singing lessons, your child will learn more than how to perform. Parents who enroll their children in dancing and singing classes are investing in friendships and life lessons that come with learning new skills in a group setting. Children learn to challenge themselves and work with others. Dance classes provide valuable rewards that will benefit your little one forever.
Keeps Mental Muscles Strong
Dance training requires more than physical strength. To learn the techniques, memorize choreography, and improvise when necessary, your child must build their mental muscles and creativity. During the months when school is out and kids are lounging at home, add a dance class or two to ensure your child has a blast while keeping their brain active. Summer dance classes allow them to focus on learning the new activity, enjoying themselves, and making the most of the experience.
Special Summer Program
For prospective new students, The St. Laurent School of Dance Summer School Program is a great introduction to dance and can pave the way to beginning more structured classes. For current students, it is a great addition to regular classes, providing a fun opportunity to put all their dance skills into action. The first Summer Session begins on June 8 and will meet for one hour, four days per week, for three weeks. Students will be divided into three groups, based on age and experience. Each week will use a specific theme to develop and learn the choreography for new dance. At the end of three weeks, there will be a virtual performance via Zoom where parents will be invited to see their children dance.
