Wells are a great way to supply your home with water when you don’t live near a municipal water line. But if you’re building a new home or have a well that’s run dry or become contaminated, you might need to hire a well driller to dig a new one for you. Below, All's Well in Fairbanks, AK, shares some different methods of well drilling that can be used.

Well Driller Shares 5 Common Drilling Techniques

1. Mud Rotary

With mud rotary drilling, a lubricant known as mud is used with a rotary drill bit during the process. This mud not only softens and cools the soil, but it also carries the displaced earth and debris to the surface. This is an extremely effective method and is frequently used.

2. Air Rotary

The air rotary method is similar to the mud rotary approach but uses compressed air instead of mud. This can be an effective technique but might not work as well with hard ground. Some well drilling companies use a combination of mud and air rotary drilling methods.

3. Cable Tool

Well DrillerWhen using a cable tool drilling method, a drilling company can create a well hole by attaching a rotary drill to a cable. This cable suspends the drill bit inside the well shaft and rotates it, slowing eating its way deeper. The walking beam gives the cable an up-and-down action which accelerates the drilling process.

4. Auger

With this method, spiral augers are attached to a hydraulically-controlled rotary drive head. This drive head rotates the auger, and the spiral draws debris to the surface. These augers are usually 5 feet in length, and as they drill to their maximum depth, additional augers are added so the earth continues to cycle upward.

5. Jetting

Water is the primary tool used in the jetting method. A bit that’s roughly shaped like a chisel acts as a nozzle for a stream of high-pressure water which both drills the hole and washes away the dirt. This is a popular well drilling method because of its simplicity and low cost.

From well drilling to repair, All's Well does it all. This well driller can create a well for you quickly and affordably and he always puts the customer first. For more information, call (907) 455-4082 or visit his website.
