Many RV owners choose to keep their vehicle in a storage unit during winter. This prevents exposure to the elements, protecting their investment until spring and summer roll around again. Before you park your RV in storage, there are some steps you must take to ensure it remains in the same condition you left it in.

3 Tips for Storing Your RV

1. Clean the Interior & Exterior

Wash and wax the exterior of the RV. If dirt and debris are left on the surface, this can increase the risk of rusting while in storage.

2. Cover Vents & Holes

Cover all of the exhaust vents and holes around your vehicle with mesh guards or cardboard and tin foil, including the AC vent on the roof, the pipes, and seams. Covering openings will prevent rodents from entering your RV and destroying or infesting the interior.

3. Prep the Engine

Fill your fuel tank up before storing your RV. If room is left in the tank, moisture can contaminate the fuel supply and increase the risk of rust. Use a fuel stabilizer, and run the RV so the stabilizer can move through the injectors, carburetor, and the rest of the engine’s components.
