Washing machines are essential for keeping the family in clean clothes. While you can go to a laundromat, it can't compete with the convenience of doing this chore from your own home. To avoid being caught unaware of an imminent breakdown, look out for the following.

When Do You Need a Replacement Washing Machine?

1. Constant Leaking

Puddles around the base of the machine are problematic. Try cutting down on the number of clothes that you put into each load. It could be that the amount of items being washed is causing the tub to overflow and allowing water to pool underneath. If that’s not the issue, then there could be a leak in the drain hose. Set up an inspection to determine if you need repair or replacement.

2. Odd Noises

It’s normal for washing machines to make noise during the spin cycle, using speed to wring out the water and ready the fabrics for the dryer. Those that sound like they’re about to take off could be a cause for concern. First, make sure that the load isn’t unbalanced by stopping the cycle and rearranging the clothes. If that doesn’t do the trick, you might have a failing motor and should plan for an upgrade.

3. Subtle Movements

Washing machines aren’t made to move from their spot. A forceful rocking from side to side is usually a sign for replacement. However, it could also mean that the feet aren't level. The constant motion of the tub might cause the hardware to come loose and produce a slight height difference. Ensure that the floor is flat and add a few pieces of cardboard on a pallet to increase stability if it is not. If that doesn't resolve the problem, start reviewing new machines.
