Applicants are also required to submit a recent photo, meaning one that has been taken in the last 30 days. Once you have met this and other pertinent criteria, you can file your application. 

Who can't conceal carry a firearm in the state?

People with criminal histories are often excluded depending on the nature of the offense. This includes felonies, misdemeanors involving violence, and two or more DUIs during the five years preceding the application. Additionally, the applicant cannot currently be under treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, and cannot be involved in a pending legal case that would affect their status.

How long does it take to get a CCW permit?

After filing your application, you can expect a decision in about 90 days. During this time period, the Illinois State Police will review your application and background in order to make an informed decision. Applications do not require fingerprints to be submitted, but doing so can expedite the process, as it saves the Illinois State Police from running an extensive background check. If you don't submit fingerprints, the decision regarding your CCW application can take up to 120 days.

You're free to carry handguns, which are defined as short-barreled weapons that can be controlled and used with one hand. This does not include rifles, shotguns, or machine guns, regardless of the barrel length. It also does not include stun guns, air rifles, or paintball guns.
