If there’s an old unused vehicle on your lawn just gathering grime and dust, it might be time to get rid of it. Aside from reducing the aesthetic appeal of your property and attracting pests, you can also make some cash by recycling a junk car. Below are a few steps you should follow before taking it to a junk yard.

3 Steps to Take Before Junking a Car

1. Remove Any Personal Belongings

If your car has been sitting in your yard or garage for a while, you might still have possessions left inside. Inspect your vehicle, for items remove any personal belongings, and throw out any trash. While this vehicle won’t be re-sold, it should still be clear of all clutter before being turned over to the junk yard. Any items left inside won’t be recovered after the car has been removed.

2. Take Off the License Plate

3. Transfer the Title

You will need to have a title in hand in order to sell your junk car to the salvage yard. It must be valid, and you will need to transfer it over in their name and hand over the paperwork. Bring a photo ID with you to the salvage yard to provide proof of identity and ownership. You can apply for your title online or by mail, or head to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles).
