Visiting a doctor is the only way to know for sure if you are pregnant, but there may be some early signs that occur even before you find that plus sign on a test. Finding out as early as possible can help you plan and seek out prenatal care, so keep an eye out for these symptoms.

What Are the Early Signs of Pregnancy?

1. Breast Tenderness

Pregnancy hormones can also cause breast changes early on. These are meant to prepare the body for breastfeeding. As early as a week or two after conception, the breasts may start to feel tender or swollen, so it’s often one of the first symptoms people notice.

2. Nausea

prenatalDuring pregnancy, the body produces the hormone HCG, which can cause nausea and vomiting. About 70 percent of pregnant women experience morning sickness, though it can result in nausea during any time of day. This often starts at around six weeks but may occur earlier for some.

3. Spotting

When a fertilized egg is implanted into the uterine wall, it can cause light bleeding. This generally occurs about ten days to two weeks after conception, so it may be confused with a normal period. However, it is generally much lighter and may only last for a day or two.

4. Missed Period

The uterine lining that is expelled each month during menstruation is used during pregnancy to nourish the fertilized egg, so the body does not expel it as usual. This is why women don’t have periods while pregnant. If you haven’t had a period within a few days of your scheduled menstruation day, take a pregnancy test.
