5 Steps of the Water Restoration Process
When a clogged sewer line or burst pipe causes water damage, homeowners should quickly turn to remediation professionals. The longer the water goes unaddressed, the greater the chances are that building materials will become warped or rotted. Bacteria and mold can also grow quickly where there is moisture. The guide below looks closer at their process for restoring your property.
What’s Involved in Water Damage Restoration?
1. Inspection
Before they can start work, the restoration company must perform a thorough assessment of the home to determine the extent of the water damage. This will include checking how much moisture was absorbed by porous materials and setting up a hygrometer to measure the humidity in the air. They will also test the water source for any contamination to determine the safety level of the job.
2. Removal
After categorizing the problems, the technicians will begin removing the standing water using high-powered pumps and vacuums. When all of the visible water has been extracted, they will perform another moisture reading and decide whether the flooring will have to be removed.
3. Dry & Dehumidify
With the standing water gone, the house may look dry, but materials may still be damp. To get out all of this moisture, the technicians will set up one or more industrial air movers and dehumidifiers throughout the property. These devices will thoroughly dry out the floors and walls to prevent the materials from warping, breaking, and developing mold growth.
4. Sanitize
When the core parts of the house are dry, the cleaning process will begin. This step involves thoroughly sanitizing the property while determining which personal items can be saved. In some cases, mold remediation might be necessary.
5. Restoration
Once the home is dry and clean, the technicians will begin repairing or replacing materials as needed to return the property to its original state. In some cases, this could be as simple as repairing some drywall and replacing flooring or it could require extensive reconstruction to parts of the home.
