Normally, when people refer to "virus removal" in terms of an iPhone® or other digital device, they are talking about a computer virus—a piece of man-made malware designed to cause problems, delete files, or cause your device to run slowly. However, more recent virus removal concerns revolve around disinfecting the phone and killing any pathogens on its surface. Below are some tips to help you do that.

Virus Removal Tips to Sanitize Your iPhone

Before you sanitize your phone, make sure it isn't plugged in. Also remove any accessories, such as headphones, cases, or external storage units. This lets you clean every nook and cranny of the phone.

Wipe With a Clean, Dry Cloth

To remove fingerprints, grease, and surface dust, wipe the outside of the phone with a clean, dry cloth. Do not dampen, as this risks moisture entering through a port or seam. Also, do not use compressed air, as this can blow dust inside and interfere with the electronics.

Apply Isopropyl Alcohol

Dampen a clean cloth with isopropyl alcohol and wipe down the outside surface of the phone. The cloth should not be dripping, only moist. The alcohol kills any germs or bacteria that might transmit disease after you've shared the phone with someone else. Dip a cotton swab or a Q-tip in the alcohol, squeeze out the excess, and use the swab to clean hard-to-reach crevices.

Use Disinfecting Wipes

If you just want a quick way to sanitize the phone after someone else has used it, keep a packet of sanitizing wipes handy. Use one or more to wipe down the front and back surfaces for a few seconds as well as your hands before using the phone. It's not as thorough as the alcohol application, but it is fast and easy and should keep you safe from infectious contaminants.
