Whether it’s a MacBook® you’ve had for years or a refurbished iMac® you just purchased, Apple® Mac® computers have so many useful features and applications. They’re a worthwhile investment for students, creative hobbyists, and professionals alike. If you’re wondering how you make your computer last for as long as possible, here’s what you need to do.

How to Make Your Mac Last Longer

1. Avoid Extreme Temperatures

If you have a MacBook, chances are you’re bringing it with you wherever you go. However, be careful of using it in extreme temperatures. When it’s colder than 50º F or hotter than 95º F, the temperatures could compromise your battery and possibly damage the entire computer.

If you need to use your laptop outdoors, get as close to average room temperature as you can. Do this by seeking out a shady spot, as direct sunlight can build up the laptop’s temperature quickly.

2. Install the Updates

Apple MacA long life span depends on keeping the applications and operating system (OS) up to date. These updates are integral for preventing security breaches as well as device compatibility. If you have an iPhone® or iPad®, depending on the device’s generation, failing to update the OS could prevent you from syncing them to the Apple Mac computer.

3. Be Gentle With It

Aside from avoiding freezing or scorching temperatures, take great care when using and transporting your Apple Mac computer. Don’t hammer the keys when you’re typing or bang on the mouse. Always use clean hands and get in the habit of wiping down any dirt or grime accumulating on the surface.

The wipes used for eyeglasses are great for this since they aren’t heavily saturated. You should also use a compressed air duster to clear out anything that has accumulated in the keyboard and connection ports.
