Installing an enclosure over the entire thing will allow the immediate atmosphere to remain consistent. It lowers the potential for sudden changes and keeps the water flowing through to the home. 

2. Apply Insulation

Exterior pipes will also require protection to avoid the winter extremes. Otherwise, standing water might freeze and start to push in an outward direction.
