When planning a funeral for a loved one, many families struggle when selecting a photo for the memorial service, funeral programs, and obituary. While it's a major decision, it doesn't have to be a stressful one when you take the right approach. Consult the guide below to help make the picture selection process easier.

3 Steps to Choosing a Memorial Service Photograph

1. Choose a Candid Photo

Candid photos showcase the person's personality. Look for an image that best exemplifies who your loved one truly was for the biggest emotional impact on others. For example, if they enjoyed joking around with others, select an image of others laughing while the loved one told a story or an image of them smiling with grandchildren.

2. Ask Friends & Family for Selections

Along with pictures from family, seek out old high school or college friends who might have pictures of the person when they were young. This can help others visualize the loved one during their academic career.

Ask work friends if they have images from retreats or business dinners as well. If the loved one participated in a hobby or sport with others, ask other participants for their photographs to round out a spread of the loved one's full life.

3. Create a Collage

You may find several photos you absolutely love. In this case, combining them into a collage might be the best way to showcase your loved one's life. Scan images on a laptop or desktop for the best clarity and upload them to a collage-friendly template. Once the collage is complete, provide a copy to the funeral home to be included in the memorial service.
