Whether you’re at work or laying on the beach, dealing with a quickly draining battery can put a serious dent in one’s daily routine. After all, you rely on your iPhone® for everything from sending emails and making calls to browsing the web and streaming music. To maximize your phone’s battery life, here are a few do’s and don’ts to keep in mind.

Do:

Turn off notifications for apps.

Notifications are messages or alerts that an application sends to update or communicate with the user. If you have a lot of applications on your phone that you don’t use often, turn off notifications to preserve your battery life. This will prevent the application from running and updating in the background.

Lower screen brightness.

iPhoneLow brightness benefits more than just your eyesight. The backlight in your phone consumes power, which means the higher the setting, the quicker your battery will drain. Reduce your brightness by half or adjust the auto settings on your phone to adjust the brightness at night.

Don’t:

Let it drop below 20%.

Allowing your iPhone’s battery to drop below the 20% line puts a heavy strain on the internal components and wears down the battery. Charge your phone when it hits below the 50% mark and keep it on a reduced battery setting.

Keep it on vibrate.

Vibrate mode is not an ideal setting if you want to preserve battery, as it drains power from the iPhone. Keep it on silent mode instead and check your phone on a periodic basis. Another option is to simply lower the ring volume to prevent it from being disruptive.
