Screenshots are photographs of your phone, computer, or tablet screen, and they’re helpful for everything from saving receipts from online orders to sharing the body of a message with a friend. However, the methods for capturing the screen often vary from device to device. If you have an iPhone® X, XS, or XR, use the following guide to take screenshots.

How to Take an iPhone Screenshot

1. Set What You Want to Capture

iPhoneOnce you find what you want to screenshot, adjust it to the parameters of your phone. This may mean scrolling up or down to fit images and text neatly within the screen. You might need to take more than one screenshot for larger images or longer text.

2. Press & Hold the Right Buttons

Previous generations of the iPhone require you to press and hold the home and top buttons to capture the screen. However, the iPhone X, XS, and XR work a bit differently since they do not have home buttons. To take a screenshot, press and hold the side button on the right and the volume up button on the left at the same time. When done correctly, you’ll hear the sound effect of a camera, and the screen will briefly fade to white.

3. Retrieve Your Screenshot

After taking screenshots, you may wonder where to find them on your phone, especially if you’re a new iPhone user. Your phone will automatically save screenshots to your Photo Gallery app. When you open it, your screenshots will display as your most recent pictures.
