It's never too late to make lifestyle changes that improve your health. Eating healthy food, for example, could boost your energy levels, lower cholesterol, and aid weight loss. The paleo diet, for instance, could help you achieve your specific goals. Here is a brief overview of what this eating plan is and how to follow it.

What Is the Paleo Diet?

healthy food

People who follow the paleo diet eat foods that early humans ate during the Paleolithic Era. People would hunt for meat and fish and eat fruits and vegetables that naturally grew in the environment. The diet prohibits foods that were developed after the Paleolithic Era due to farming methods, such as grains, legumes, refined sugars, and dairy products.

The principle behind the paleo diet is that human bodies are slow to adapt to and process foods that were developed due to the agricultural revolution which in turn, can contribute to weight issues, blood pressure problems, and other health concerns.

How Do You Follow the Paleo Diet?

The paleo diet is not as restrictive as certain other eating plans, as you can indulge in a wide range of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and lean meats. It's best to eat organic and non-GMO foods, as the growing methods don't include use of pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, and other chemicals that could be harmful to your health. Instead of grain-fed meats, opt for grass-fed varieties. The latter has a higher nutritional value and less saturated fat.
