Families can watch a monster truck rally, visit animals at a petting zoo, and try out zero-gravity thrill rides. 

2. Surfing in Waikiki

The south part of the island gets a bit more wind during the summer months, leading to some mild waves along the beaches of Waikiki. These baby waves are perfect for first-time surfers to learn the sport.

3. Kamehameha Day

King Kamehameha I was the first ruler of the Kingdom of Hawaii. He is honored on June 11 each year with lei ceremonies and parades across the islands. Visitors can enjoy watching equestrian riders, listening to marching bands and recording artists, and browsing cultural items at craft fairs. 

4. MayJah RayJah Music Festival

If you love reggae music, make time for the MayJah RayJah Music Festival at Aloha Stadium on July 26 and 27. Now in its tenth year, the festival features a long list of performers and DJs, including headliners Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Soja. You can get a pass for the whole event or pick just one day. 

5. Bon Dance

Bon festivals or dances are Japanese Buddhist celebrations that honor the ancestors with traditional dancing and music. Many of these celebrations take place across Hawaii during Obon, which is usually celebrated in August. All are welcome to attend these events, no matter their background or religious beliefs.
