If you’ve installed a beautiful glass shower enclosure in your bathroom, it’s important to care for it correctly. If you don’t, soap scum and water can stain and cloud the glass, creating an unpleasant, dingy appearance. To keep the glass clear and clean for years to come, follow these care tips.

Apply a Sealant

Either when you order your glass shower enclosure or after it’s installed, apply a water-repelling coating. This will help water and any other substances in it roll off the glass easily without leaving marks.

Keep the Bathroom Ventilated

Glass Shower EnclosuresMildew growing on your glass is both unsightly and a health hazard, so to prevent it from growing, you’ll want to dry out the bathroom after every use. Make sure your bathroom includes good ventilation and a fan to circulate the air, and turn it on for half an hour after you shower.

Use a Squeegee

After you shower, squeegeeing the glass will minimize the amount of moisture that needs to air dry. It’ll also get rid of any droplets which might leave water marks behind. Keep a squeegee in your glass shower enclosure and use it every time you rinse off.

Choose a Mild Cleanser

You should also clean the glass periodically with a non-abrasive, ammonia-free cleaner. A mixture of white vinegar and water is a good choice for breaking up mineral stains and keeping the glass clear.

Scrub With Baking Soda

If you do have hard water stains, don’t give up just yet. Make a paste of baking soda and water, and scrub your shower door with it. You can also try spray cleaners designed for glass stovetops, which are effective at lifting caked-on scum.
