When you visit a chiropractor for the first time, you may be unsure of what will happen at the appointment. Knowing what to expect will help you have peace of mind. Take the following steps to be ready for your first visit.

How to Prepare for a Chiropractor Appointment

1. Record Your Symptoms

Your chiropractor will give you the best treatment if they know as much as possible about your symptoms. In the period leading up to the appointment, take notes about what makes your pain worse and what other treatments you have tried up until that visit. Try to remember how long ago the problem started, and mention any areas you feel pain, especially near the lower spinal area or neck and shoulders.

2. Wear the Right Clothing

chiropractorYour first appointment may include a chiropractic adjustment, which is also known as spinal manipulation. It is designed to relieve pain and improve spinal motion.

This procedure involves lying on a table either face up or face down, so it’s best to wear loose clothing that is easy to move in. You’ll likely need to take off your shoes, so don’t wear anything that takes a long time to unlace and remove.

3. Arrive Early

Because this is your first visit, there will be some paperwork to fill out, including insurance and medical history. Arrive 15 minutes before the actual appointment time so you can get this completed without being late. This will also allow you to fill out forms at your own pace.
