There are several varieties of diamonds and they’re all composed of different properties, clarity, carats, and colors. If you’re looking to purchase one from a diamond buyer, these are a few kinds that might catch your eye.

What Are Some Common Diamonds?

1. Colorless

This precious stone is the highest-quality, most coveted diamond on the market due to its absence of color. Their colorless appearance also lands them in the rare D-to-F group on the Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA) color-grading system, which increases their value exponentially.

2. Yellow

Yellow diamonds have gained popularity in recent years thanks to Hollywood celebrities wearing them more frequently on the red carpet. Since they’re classified as a “fancy” diamond by the GIA, they fall outside of the organization’s D-to-Z range. However, their price increases the more vibrant their yellow tinge is. They could be found in hues ranging from a light pastel to a rich canary color.

3. Green

This type of diamond is also sought-after but extremely rare to find. It gets its signature saturated hue from being exposed to small amounts of radioactive material, like uranium or thorium, or other defects caused by nitrogen, nickel, or hydrogen impurities. While they’re often confused for emeralds, green diamonds are more durable than the gemstone.

4. Synthetic

This type of diamond is less expensive to produce than other varieties because it's man-made in a laboratory. While manufactured diamonds are more widely available than natural ones, they could still command a high price tag from diamond buyers if they’re heavier or have a certificate from the International Gemological Institute
