Every year, nearly 15 billion coins enter circulation. While most are worth no more than their face value, some are exceedingly rare and fetch a high return in the current market. Often, their limited availability is due to their materials or printing errors. If you're looking to sell coins, see if you have one of these four rarities in your collection.

A Brief Guide to Valuable Coins

1. 1943 Lincoln Copper Penny

In 1943, copper was necessary for the war effort, so pennies were manufactured with steel instead. However, the U.S. Mint inadvertently produced a single copper batch. The few pennies remaining from this collection are highly sought after and extremely valuable. They can bring in up to $10,000 a piece, though one sold recently in a private sale for a staggering $1.7 million.

2. 2004 Wisconsin Quarter With Extra Leaf

From 1999 to 2008, the U.S. Mint produced quarters honoring each state in the Union. Wisconsin's piece was issued in 2004, featuring an image of a cow, a wedge of cheese, and an ear of corn.

If you want to sell coins for a potentially big payday, check your Wisconsin quarters carefully. A high or low leaf growing from the left-hand side of the corn cob indicates you have an item worth as much as $300.

3. 1982 Roosevelt Dime Without Mint Marking

Every coin produced in the United States features an imprint of the first letter of the city where that particular piece was minted. For reasons that aren't quite clear, the Philadelphia mint forgot to put the P on a batch of dimes in 1982. If you track down one of these rarities, it can sell for up to $300.

4. 2005 "In God We Rust" Kansas Quarter

A minting mistake resulted in the omission of the letter T from the motto, "In God We Trust," in Kansas's 2005 state quarter. The interesting placement of this error makes the quarter particularly valuable. If you have one, expect it to pull in up to $100 for it.
