When you’re undertaking a DIY project that involves laying new concrete, you’ll need to arrange for the material to be dropped off at your worksite. Before it’s scheduled to arrive, there are a few steps you should take to ensure the delivery goes smoothly and efficiently so you can begin your project on the right track. To start, follow these tips.

How to Get Ready for Concrete Delivery

1. Coordinate Multiple Deliveries

For a larger project, you might need to request more than one delivery. Work out a schedule with your concrete supplier so they only deliver the amount of product you’re going to be using right away. Spreading out the other deliveries will prevent the material from drying out before you get a chance to use it.

2. Get the Site Ready

concreteThe day before your delivery, prepare the site where the concrete will be poured. Remove any debris from the area, such as stones, vegetation, and tree stumps, and level the ground by compacting the surface. Also, set up the framework to create your project's shape, and check that it's strong enough to support all the concrete the job requires.

3. Clear Access for the Delivery Truck

To make sure the delivery truck has easy access to your property, move vehicles out of the driveway or schedule delivery for a time when there are fewer cars parked along the street. Also, if you have gates, ensure the entrance is wide enough for larger vehicles to get through. If the truck can't park close to the worksite, you may need to plan for a concrete pump to transfer the material.

4. Dress Appropriately

You only have a certain amount of time to work with concrete after it's poured before it begins to cure. As such, once the delivery truck arrives, you must be ready to start working. You and anyone helping with the project should already be dressed in the appropriate attire, including long sleeves and pants, gloves, boots, and eye protection.
