A wire mesh fence can enhance your property’s security or serve as an effective barrier for a garden area. It can also keep young kids and pets from leaving your yard. When tackling a wire mesh fence installation yourself, the following key steps will ensure you get the job done right.

How to Install a Wire Mesh Fence

1. Plan the Fence Layout

Start by determining if you’ll need to remove any trees or shrubs from the area where you plan to install the fence. Take careful measurements so that you know how much material you’ll need.

Mark spots for corner posts, and run a string between each post to keep the installation on a straight line. Once this basic outline is in place, mark locations for additional fence posts and access points.

2. Install the Posts

Press them into the soil and dry cement, then fill the rest of the hole with ready-mixed concrete to secure them in place.

3. Add the Wire Mesh

You may want to dig a shallow trench between posts to add strength and stability to the wire mesh after it’s installed. Regardless, start adding the material by attaching the mesh to one corner post.

Stretch it as you pull it to subsequent posts, nailing or clipping the mesh along the top, bottom, and middle to secure it in place. A fence stretching tool can also prevent sagging. Repeat this process until the fence is complete.
