Bicentennial & Fun Run

Rabun County turns 200 on December 21st, 2019, and is celebrating its rich history and heritage throughout the year. One of the highlights of the celebration will be the Torch and Flag Fun Run on July 27th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

In the days leading up to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, the Olympic Flame was carried through Rabun County on its way to light the torch at the opening ceremonies. To commemorate that exciting time in the county’s history, runners will carry a torch and the bicentennial banner along a route ending at the Pavilions in Clayton for a torch-lighting ceremony. Other scheduled festivities include a time-capsule burial and old-fashioned field day activities, perfect for locals as well as visitors looking for a fun family vacation.
