A properly functioning dishwasher can save you a lot of time. Like any appliance, they can experience a multitude of issues requiring professional dishwasher repair. The good news is that many of these problems have solutions a professional can solve that won't require you to purchase a whole new dishwasher. Below are common issues you may experience with your dishwasher.

How to Tell Your Dishwasher Is Failing

1. Dirty Dishes

Nothing is more disappointing than running a dishwasher cycle only to find everything is still dirty.  If this is happening, check for potential operational issues. Look to make sure the dishwasher isn't being overloaded, and that utensils aren't jamming the spray arms from fully spinning. Ensure excess food is scraped off of the plates before putting them in the dishwasher.

Next, check for any gunk in the strain screen and door gasket. Blockages could be causing what's being washed off to not be filtered out of the machine. The spray arms can also be checked to make sure that they spin without getting stuck or stalling. If any parts are not functioning, a dishwasher repair professional will be able to replace individual parts and get your machine back up and running.

2. Dishes Not Drying

Sometimes dishes come out clean, but still wet. If your dishes aren't drying, it may be due to a failed heating element or high-limit thermostat. The thermostat keeps the dishwasher below a certain temperature limit. If this limit is exceeded, the dishwasher is shut off.

If this thermostat is broken, it could cause your machine to turn off before it hits the heat limit, preventing your dishes from dying. Another item to check is to make sure the rinse aid dispenser is not empty as it helps with the drying process.

3. Dishwasher Won't Start

If the dishwasher doesn't start, it may not be receiving power. If other appliances are also affected, your fuse box may have had a trip. If the dishwasher turns on but does not start the cycle, the door may be the root cause. Sometimes door latches trigger a switch to let the system know the door is closed all the way. If the door isn't completely latched, it may prevent the dishwasher from starting.
