For the past 17 years, Maui Industrial Metal Fabricators  Estimator, Chris James has focused on leveraging his experience with structural steel and aluminum to help construction professionals find innovative ways to build and develop their communities.

James began his career at the Puunene, HI, company as a yard attendant in 1999. Wanting to expand his horizons and broaden his education, James headed off to Utah Valley University to specialize in finance. While there, he worked as a connector and welder before becoming a foreman. 

In 2007, James was hired as a project manager at Mark Steel Corp., a steel fabrication company specializing in large pressure vessels, API tanks, and process equipment for the oil refining, mining, and nuclear industries. After several years at Mark Steel, James felt the pull of Hawaii once again and returned to Maui Industrial Metal Fabricators as part of the estimating and project management team. James now works alongside company president Joe Elayer to help in the execution of local steel projects. Some of the notable metal fabrication projects he’s been involved with include work on the Easter Seals renovation, the Jet A Fuel storage facility, and the Victoria Secret Kaahumanu Center — to name a few.

Along the way, James met and married his wife of 15 years, Jessica, and together they raise their three children — Jesse (15), Aiden (11), and Leo (6). As a volunteer for local groups like the Boy Scouts and NFL Play 60, James takes pride in helping develop the area he calls home both through community outreach and his work at Maui Industrial Metal Fabricators.
